'Grindhouse' a good idea?
Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have created a genius collaboration of film to bring us their two latest flicks Death Proof and Planet Terror. They have combined them under one title 'Grindhouse'. Where both films will cost the price of one and be shown back to back with an intermission of trailers for fake films. It is in a way a homage to the way in which they would have seen films in the cinema with double or triple headers when they were growing up. This idea although genius to me has apparently been failing during its recent release in the United States. It has made less money than anticipated, due to reasons such as; many people have just left after rodriguez's segment 'Planet Terror' unaware that there is another entire film up ahead. Now to my horror there are rumours that when it is released in the uk it will be split up and released under the two titles and will therefore lose one of the most anticipated aspects of the films. The other big reason for it not being as large a sucess as it should be is that with two feature-length films and an intermission the length of the show is exceeding three hours, which is resulting in less showings that can be fit in. But to me this reason is utter bullshit because films like 'Harry Potter' and 'The Lord Of The Rings' all last for around three hours and 'The Return Of The King' was actually three hours and twenty minutes long and it was a huge sucess, so how can it be put down to that?
